Reminiscing
Thirty-one years ago this
month Bob and I were moving from a temporary duty station in Sicily to Corpus
Christi, Texas. We had lots of leave time, so we were traveling through Europe
to get back to the states. While in Rome we had lunch with a couple we met on a
tour and they suggested we stop in Argegno on Lake Como if we had the chance
and stay at Villa Belvedere. We took their advice and it was a highlight of our
travel time then.
For old times sake we booked
rooms at Via Belvedere on our drive from Munich to Tuscany and spent two nights
at the same small hotel on Lake Como. It has not changed much in 31 years! The
owner we remember well has passed away, but his wife is still there running the
hotel. We think some of the furniture was the same as it was then! The location
is still a beautiful piece of paradise on Lake Como where you go just to kick
back and relax. The views from the tiny rooms are still spectacular and the
outside patio was delightful for sharing a bottle of wine in the afternoon and
having a leisurely breakfast in the morning.
We had dinner the night we arrived in the dining room and relaxed around
a fire in the parlor afterwards to round out our first travel day in Italy.
Molto Buona!
